“We are not doing this for the sake of materialistic needs such as CE or CCA points. We are just students, taking service-learning, a step further for the sake of our future.”
–Murdifi Muhammad
Ending his proposal presentation with such profound words, Murdifi Muhammad, our Logistics Department Head, looks to add fuel to our service-learning journey. His proposal included working with Singapore Polytechnic’s LEO Club, in which the representatives came to acknowledge the possibility of this collaboration. Potentially, Service-Learning Club (SLC) might also work with RP’s own Culinary IG. With resources saying that it will be two separate projects altogether. But both projects will work hand-in-hand with the same organisation, Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH). The projects are proposed to be launched in the coming academic year.
Five of our other departments have also each taken on different projects, each working hand-in-hand with a different organisation. The organisations that they will be working with are, Association for People with Special Needs (ASPN), Touch Community Services, Beyond Social Services, Lions Befrienders Service Association and Animal Concern Research & Education (ACRES). In total, SLC has six projects in the upcoming academic year.
When ask of her hopes and aspiration of the upcoming projects, our vice-president Ang Min Yi said, “SLC has the mission to encourage youths to be leaders of change. Hopefully these local projects would serve as a platform to inspire more potential leaders to make a difference to the lives of countless other people.”
With people like Murdifi and Min Yi on board, SLC seems to be on the right path towards making a difference in service learning.
